Prince Charles Celebrates Ballet

Thursday 11th March 2010 - 14:00:41

The prince - who is president of the ballet company - attended a gala evening last night (10.03.10) where he enjoyed excerpts from 'The Nutcracker' and 'Romeo and Juliet' by students from Elmhurst School for Dance, a vocational school which the Duchess of Cornwall is patron.

Dancers from the Royal Ballet School also took to the stage during the two and a half production, and during the interval Charles unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of a new exhibition of artwork commemorating two decades of the theatre company.

He said: "Never afraid of taking a creative risk, this is a company which creates and presents work that is exciting and technically excellent and ultimately aims to inspire and delight audiences, making access to dance easy, affordable and entertaining."

The Duchess of Cornwall was unable to attend the performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome due to a bad back.
