Dai Greene Going Well In 400m Hurdles

Wednesday 28th July 2010 - 16:07:19

Dai Greene coasted into the semi finals of the 400m as he has his eyes set firmly on European gold in Barcelona this week.

The Welshman has been the fastest European over the hurdles so far this season and is the pre-event favourite to walk home with the gold medal.

And Greene didn't hang around this morning as he clocked a time 50.11 second to reach tomorrow night's semi finals.

It was a good morning all round for the British hurdlers as fellow Welshman Rhys Williams also progressed with a time of 49.35 seconds, the fastest qualifier, while Nathan Woodward also made it through with a time of 50.45.

After the race Greene revealed that he didn't mind being the favourite for the title but knows that he still has a tough job on his hands if he wants gold.

Speaking to the Daily Mail he said: 'It doesn't worry me really, I know if I execute the race correctly the gold is there for me to take, but I'm not taking anything for granted.'

There was good news for the women as well this morning as Lara Turner came through her 100m qualifier in a time of 11.11, which saw her come in in fourth.

Turner has had a great season and she is currently second in the European rankings but her time was only good enough to see her qualify seventh fastest.

Jo Jackson was out on the streets of Barcelona early this morning for the women's 20k walk, finishing in tenth. It was a clean sweep by the Russians as Olga Kaniskina added the European title to her world and Olympic titles. Anisya Kirdyapkina took silver and Vera Sokolova bronze.
