The Boyzone singer - who has made it through to the final six contestants on the ice-skating show - believes part of the reason why he is still in the competition is because he has managed to avoid being heavily criticised by outspoken judge Jason Gardiner.

He said: "I have been very lucky so far. Jason has not torpedoed me out of the water with his comments yet. Some of his put-downs are hilarious - where he gets them from I don't know. But I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end because they can dent your confidence."

Although he is relieved to escape harsh criticism, the 37-year-old singer understands that reality show judges need to have a "colourful" perspective and personality.

He explained: "But on reality shows like 'Dancing On Ice' and 'The X Factor' there always have to be colourful judges - it's entertainment. It's not for me to say whether he has overstepped the mark or not. If he does, the public will be very quick to tell him. Jason knows where the boundaries are!"

Mikey has also admitted his healthy-eating regime hasn't been very consistent throughout his training.

He explained to Closer magazine: "I am training hard, but I must admit I haven't been watching my diet. I try to be good on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but then it'll come to Thursday and it all goes out the window and I'll go for a curry then I'll have a drink. Before I know it I'm eating a chocolate dessert and it's all gone to pot!"
